Learning Pathways on Learn.WordPress.org
The WordPress Training Team recognizes the need for a clear, structured, and user-friendly approach to presenting Learn WordPress content. As a result, we aim to deploy an improved Learn WordPress website experience that provides an easy-to-navigate, goal-oriented learning environment that caters to learners of different roles and skill levels. In this talk I would like to talk about the Learning Pathways Project and also send out a call for volunteers to help support the project.
This project will serve as a foundational start, establishing a framework and functionality that will allow for the expansion and growth of the learning system over time. To meet our objective, this project includes a website redesign that offers clear learning pathways to reach target Learners such as Developers, End Users, and Designers. We will also focus on making relevant content easier to find and the inclusion of a framework that classifies content by skill level. We believe this will enhance user engagement, improve learning outcomes, and increase user adoption of Learn WordPress resources.
The Training Team hopes that this project will help us better serve the wider WordPress community by promoting knowledge transfer and ensuring a thriving community with diverse skills and abilities.

How to achieve an efficient workflow with the Site Editor
From its initial release back in 2018, the Site Editor has had its fair share of growing pains as users adjusted to the change. Recently, WordPress has made significant strides in improving its page-building experience and has tremendously grown since its inception. The shift from the Classic Editor to the Site Editor has provided users a more visual design process that enables them to design fully functional web pages similar with how they would typically achieve it with any other third-party page builder.
While the Site Editor has been continuously enhanced with great improvements, there are still a number of users that have trouble streamlining their workflow and getting the most out of the Site Editor. In this talk, I’ll be demonstrating how one can achieve an efficient workflow from start to finish and providing a fresh take on how to unlock the full power of what the default WordPress Editor offers.

Properly Recognizing Contributors in Large Open Source Projects
Ensuring contributors feel appreciated is essential to the success of any open source project. In its 20+ year history, there have been over 5,400 unique contributors listed on the Credits pages for each version released. But even as one of the largest current FOSS projects powering 43%+ of the Internet, this number is inaccurate and low.
Have you ever considered what a contribution actually is? Where does it come from? Who is contributing and how? How are contributions tracked? What does recognition mean to contributors? And why is the number above lower than it should be?
Come learn about the types of recognition the WordPress project currently has, where the blindspots are, what the challenges are at scale, and what’s being done to overcome these obstacles in order to ensure every contributor feels appropriately recognized to create a more stable supporting community.

Website Accessibility – Why, When and How
Website accessibility is often the last thing we think about when creating a website, and sometimes it is not considered at all, but it is more than just ticking a box for compliance.
Studies show one in six people in the Asia-Pacific region lives with disability, and that this is likely to increase, so it is vitally important we are taking steps to give maximum accessibility to our web presence.
Come with me on a journey to discover why it is important to build accessible websites, when you should be implementing and thinking about it, and how to engage best practices going forward to make sure as many people as possible can see, interact and enjoy the beautiful sites you create.
How to counter arguments from developers, designers and managers against accessibility
Do you get an aggressive, dismissive or defensive reaction from your design or development colleagues, your marketing department, your managers, or even from your full-service advertising agency as soon as you start talking about accessibility? Want to learn how to counter and motivate? Come to my talk, and you will go home with some great techniques and tactics to turn them around!
This talk is aimed at anyone already working in digital accessibility, in a leading / inspiring role. It’s a peer to peer boost, so to speak.
One of the worst things that can happen to people in creative professions is for them to feel castrated in their creativity, their tools, and their toys. Whether it’s in graphic design, content or code, it results in unproductive resentment.
But the reality is that it’s really not the rules and guidelines for digital accessibility that cause the resentment. It’s the assumptions and misconceptions around it.
In this session, I will share how I guide and inspire designers, developers, and content creators to want to rock accessibility.

Getting Ready for the Deprecation of 3P Cookies
The web has brought a wide range of free services and capabilities to users such as email, social media, online shopping, streaming video, and many others. These services rely on an economic model that depends on tracking users and identifying audiences for targeted advertising.
Today, increasing concerns about user privacy, data breaches, and the misuse of personal information have led to a growing demand for enhanced privacy protections. Such demands have prompted significant changes in how the web operates, including the imminent deprecation of Third-Party Cookies (3PC).
With major web browsers phasing out support for third-party cookies, businesses, developers, and marketers face the need to reimagine their strategies. In this talk, I will delve into the impact of the impending 3PC deprecation for the and explore practical strategies for preparing and adapting to this transformative shift.
The talk will consist of two parts. The first part will have four brief sections. (1) We will begin with a brief overview of Cookies as a State Management mechanism, understanding the properties of cookies which makes them vulnerable to misuse, and understanding what exactly will change when 3P Cookies are deprecated; (2) we will then discuss how existing and new Web Platform capabilities can be used to refactor implementation that rely on 3P cookies today; (3) next we will review the tools and resources available to help developers navigate the transition to a web platform without 3P cookies; (4) we will give the audience a scripted approach they can follow to prepare and get ready for the deprecation of 3P cookies.
The second part of the talk will explore the importance of embracing privacy-centric technologies which offer a privacy-first approach to ad targeting and measurement, allowing businesses to reach their target audiences without sacrificing user privacy.
The countdown to the 3PC deprecation has already begun, and it is essential to be proactive in our approach. This talk seeks to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to be at the forefront of embracing change and safeguarding user privacy while ensuring business continuity.

What Does Underrepresentation Mean? What Is Allyship? And Why Does it Matter?
The work we do in DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) in the tech community, and WordPress specifically, matters a great deal.
Imagine making unilateral decisions on global projects from only one point of view. This effectively disengages users, customers, clients, and community. The decisions we make about how products, software, services, and community operate must take into consideration how people from every part of the world – including underrepresented groups – will use them and be involved.
From making sure our venues are wheelchair accessible, to making sure our websites are accessible to users of different disabilities and languages, to making sure our community is accessible to all people inclusive of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, physical ability, nationality, socio-economic status, religious beliefs, and any other characteristics that are a part of our identity and humanness matters. It matters a lot.
How we do the work to achieve this is allyship. And it’s worth it.
This session will present some history of how we’ve gotten where we are, the work that’s currently in place, what might be on the horizon, and how each and every one of us can (and should) advocate for representation and inclusion.

ChatWP. What would you ask your WordPress site?
In the last 12 months, since WordCamp Asia Bangkok, tangible artificial intelligence has become mainstream. For example, Large Language Models (LLMs) such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT have become the fastest growing web applications in history. But these models have mostly been developed and trained by large technology companies using proprietary datasets they’ve scooped up from the Internet. As an individual user, you have no way of knowing how much of that data is yours, and you have no way of controlling it either once it’s been ingested. Thankfully there are more and more open models becoming more widespread that you can use yourself.
This talk will give a brief introduction on the current state of AI, what LLMs are, how you can integrate existing LLMs into your own WordPress site, and lastly, for the adventurous, how you can train your own to give more specific results, more control of your own data and tell the other bots to go away.

Intentional Designing: Crafting Purposeful Digital Experiences

The Power of Personal Branding in the AI Era
Personal branding is a vital asset for anyone who is seeking to thrive in an era of technological advancements like AI. It’s the process of shaping your professional identity and effectively utilizing social media platforms to your advantage.
It allows you to differentiate yourself in a competitive landscape. It highlights your unique skills, values, and personality traits, making you memorable and relatable to clients. This human touch is something AI lacks.
Having a personal brand helps you with networking as well. Engaging with your industry peers, potential clients, and thought leaders through platforms like LinkedIn can lead to collaborations and business opportunities that AI can’t replicate.
It also positions you as an adaptable professional in the AI age. By constantly learning, sharing industry insights, and demonstrating your ability to evolve with the technology, you ensure you’re not overshadowed by AI but rather seen as someone who can harness its power to benefit your clients.

The elements of WordPress
WordPress is made of blocks, but that’s just the start. The system starts with blocks, that combine to form patterns, template parts, templates and then styling unites everything. This evolution is growing in pace and even more critical to understand not just for those creating designs, but those even looking to extend the interface and components.
Blocks, patterns, templates and styles are the elements of WordPress. What does that mean today? How can you take that knowledge and use it? What does it mean for the concept of themes or the experience of using WordPress itself? In this talk let’s explore a little the history to give context, the present and then the future of the elements of WordPress.

INP – a new metric for interactivity
INP (Interaction to Next Paint) is a new Core Web Vital that measures interactivity by seeing how long it takes for a page to give visual feedback in response to user input. By capturing the worst of these interactions, the INP metrics helps developers understand and debug resources that are contributing to a poor user experience.
The INP metric is already built into a wide variety of testing tools including Web Page Test and Lighthouse. As a WordPress site, plugin or theme developer, it is important to understand what INP is and how you can leverage it to improve the user experience your site or product delivers.
In this talk, we will discuss:
By the end of this talk, you will have a good understanding of INP and how you can improve your user’s experience by improving your INP!

From independence to integration: The journey of being acquired
Tales of startups and scale-ups are something you hear a lot in the WordPress ecosystem. Stories of innovation, challenge, and success are celebrated and serve as beacons of inspiration. However, there’s an uncharted narrative many shy away from, often only whispered about: the journey of being acquired.
I present a talk that seeks to demystify this pivotal phase. “From independence to integration: The journey of being acquired” is not just a presentation; it’s a firsthand recounting of the complexities, choices, and challenges faced during an acquisition. At its heart, this talk aims to communicate a powerful message: Being acquired is not an epilogue but a transformative chapter.
Why is this topic crucial for our community?
What makes this presentation unique? Our speaker is the last (wo)man standing from the old board of her company. This is not a hypothetical analysis or an outsider’s perspective. It’s a raw, genuine account from someone at the heart of such a transition. With a rich leadership experience both inside and outside the WordPress domain, she offers a multi-faceted viewpoint, resonating with professionals at all stages of their careers.
In 45 minutes, attendees won’t just get a talk; they’ll experience a journey. A journey that transforms the narrative around acquisitions, equipping professionals with insights to navigate such milestones, should they ever face them.
This isn’t just another talk. It’s a conversation the WordPress community needs.
The Future of WordPress (3F – Track 1 – Plenary Hall)

Building a career in WordPress while raising seven kids
In this talk I’ll share how being part of the WordPress industry enabled me to pursue my two passions: family and professional development.
My story begins with the founding of a WordPress development agency, a venture born out of a love for web development and the endless possibilities offered by the WordPress platform. I’ll share the highs and lows of entrepreneurial life—tackling client projects, navigating industry trends, and building a team—all while balancing the responsibilities of a growing family.
Selling the agency after thirteen years paved the way for a new venture: Strattic. This new direction brought with it new challenges, and demanded I learn the ins-and-outs of the startup business model. We’ll dive into the dynamic landscape of startup life within the WordPress space. After being acquired by Elementor, I had to learn to transition from being a founder and CEO for seventeen years to being an employee. This brought its own challenges, and demanded that I adjust while learning a lot about myself.
Central to this narrative is the unparalleled experience of being an active participant in the WordPress community. I’ll share the demands it places on time and resources but, more importantly, how it gives back in so many meaningful ways. The WordPress community has been a transformative force, exposing me to diverse perspectives, introducing me to individuals beyond my immediate circles, and immersing me in rich and varied cultures.
Working in the WordPress space has been a unique experience—one where the lines between work and passion blur. I’ll delve into why contributing to the WordPress community doesn’t feel like traditional work but rather a collaborative journey of knowledge-sharing and enablement of personal goals.
