Vision, intention, values: (re)defining the culture of the design practice
As designers, we have a fundamental role in giving shape to the world that surround us and in defining how we interact with it, and yet the design practice is still perceived as – and often confined to – marginal roles, generally aesthetic, superficial and hardly relevant.
As we know, though, “design is how it works”. Which is why it is growingly important to reiterate, promote, support, and reiterate again how fundamental is to cultivate and promote the value of the culture of the design practice.
Just as it’s important that young designers be aware that this job is more like a mission: a lifetime journey, where, along with talent, one must bring – and cultivate – competences, knowledge, professionalism, ethics, values, and value.

Front-end Performance and WordPress
Front-end performance refers to the speed and responsiveness of a website as experienced by the user. It can be improved by optimizing images, minifying code, using a content delivery network (CDN), and reducing the number of HTTP requests, among other things.
Front-end performance in WordPress can be tricky because there are so many chefs (theme, plugins) that contribute to what the HTML document looks like. Fail to keep an eye on things and they will get out of control.
This talk is not at all about server-side performance (even though that is also important), instead, it focuses on how the user’s device processes the page returned by the server, the main challenges, tools that can help you, mistakes to avoid, and yes – because everyone cares about them – Core Web Vitals.

Stepping Back To Move Forward
Have you ever felt too ashamed to admit to yourself or others about your state of mind? I learned that there is nothing ever more important in life than my own health – both physical and mental. There have been many times where my path changed and even when I had to break out of my own life in order to protect my health. There is a myth that we all have a destiny and that we know it from a young age. Don’t envy those people!
Only by stepping back once in a while and by reconsidering my personal decisions, did I became who I am today: a pioneer who likes new challenges and who needs to reinvent herself from time to time. Nevertheless, deep inside I am also afraid of change and I struggle with mental health issues. Leaving the comfort zone can be very scary but everything you want lies on the other side of fear.
In this talk, I will give you my insight on why stepping back is important to your progress and to find out who you really are. We’ll discuss reevaluating personal and professional priorities and values, how to understand when you need a rest, and how to keep your mental health up.

Blockworld – Survival Guide for a PHP developer
We were told to learn Javascript, deeply… But if you are anything like me, still more comfortable in the backend, here are some tips on surviving in this strange new block-based word.
Good people who learnt JS deeply before us have created some nice tools that we can use from the comfort of our PHP, without venturing (much) into the realm of package managers, build processes, compilers, frontend frameworks and other newfangled creatures. And still create beautiful and functional things.

From PHP 5.3 to 8.2: what are you missing?
It’s clear how PHP has evolved in the last years, but a lot of developers are still using or thinking the same way as if they are using PHP 5 or PHP 7. The idea of this talk is to give a hands-on overview of new and exciting features of PHP 8, how to upgrade old code, and, especially, how you take your way of thinking code to another level.

GenerativeAI & WordPress: buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride
2022 was remarkable for the explosion of GenerativeAI technologies. DALL-E, MidJourney and Stable Diffusion blew our minds with their ability to generate images from text prompts. Then ChatGPT came along and totally blew up the internet. We’ve seen all sorts of daily tools integrate these new generative AI technologies; from Github’s CoPilot through Notion and even CodeWP – a specialist WordPress code generator.
In this talk, David will explain briefly how these technologies work and how they fit into the broader landscape of both AI and technology trends more broadly. He’ll then cover some of the most impressive and coolest examples of the technology in use today.
This all sets the stage to discuss how GenerativeAI and WordPress intersect. These are technologies that will have a direct impact on the entire array of WordPress stakeholders, right from developers through to end users of WordPress-powered sites. As with any disruptive technology, we will see opportunities and threats. David will help the audience think more precisely about this disruption and how they might best maneuver to enjoy the benefits and avoid the downsides.
These technologies are only going to get more impressive; let’s use them to make WordPress even better!

WordPress Through the Terminal
Remember the famous “5 minutes installation” process for installing WordPress? Let’s see what WP-CLI can do in 5 minutes. And everything else that can happen in the terminal in 40 minutes. We might actually make WordPress instances more secure. Or just break it.
This is not your usual presentation talk. This is a live terminal commanding; SSHing your WordPress administration and development; and releasing the Kraken or two.

Workshop: Cria o teu próprio bloco Gutenberg

20 Years. That’s a Lot of Community.
The WordPress community has driven the software for 20 years. It has grown and shaped itself as each year has passed. But how do each of us view the community today? What has changed and what has stayed the same? Bob will reflect on the past, look at where we are today and give a little personal insight to where we may be going, as a community.
These are the people that make this event happen. They work tirelessly for weeks and months to plan, coordinate, and execute the best event possible. If you get a chance to thank them, please do!

WordCamp Lisboa is one of the largest WordPress conferences in Portugal, bringing together hundreds of WordPress users, developers, and extenders from Lisbon, the surrounding communities, Portugal, and abroad. Unlike similar technology conferences, WordCamps are entirely organized and managed by dedicated volunteers from the community! This community-organized event is not-for-profit.
Back for the first time since 2019, WordCamp Lisboa welcomes all those that love using or building with WordPress and the open-source community that supports it.
WordCamp Lisboa offers two days of sessions on marketing, web development, design, SEO, e-commerce, blogging, and everything related to WordPress. Developers, business owners, bloggers, and extenders join together to learn and network with the Portuguese WordPress Community. Members of the community can also give back by participating in Contributor Day – a day of action and contribution to the WordPress open-source project.
