Back in 2024, I introduced Presser Notes as a small experiment. The idea was simple: while browsing Pressers, you could keep private reminders for yourself … where you met, a collaboration you talked about, or the name of someone’s favorite band.
It was a thoughtful idea. It was also an experiment. And experiments are useful even when they do not become permanent parts of the site.
Why retire it?
The honest answer is that Presser Notes did not get enough regular use to earn its place in the product. A feature does not need to be broken to be ready to go. Sometimes it simply is not solving a problem often enough for the people it was built to help.
Keeping a feature around also means keeping its interface, privacy expectations, support needs, and future maintenance in mind. When a tool is used lightly, that attention is better spent improving the parts of The WP World that people return to again and again.
A good kind of goodbye
Retiring Presser Notes is not a step back from helping people connect. It is a choice to keep The WP World focused, useful, and easier to grow well.
The heart of the site is still the same: helping you discover people in the WordPress community, keep up with events, and find useful context before the next conversation. Those are the places where The WP World can make the biggest difference … and where I want to keep putting energy.
What is changing
The Presser Notes feature has been removed from Presser profiles. The original announcement will remain up as a record of the experiment and the thinking behind it.
If you were one of the people who used it, thank you. You helped test an idea that taught us something valuable: a smaller, clearer product is often a better product.
What comes next
I will keep listening to how people actually use The WP World, then make room for the features that help the community most. That may mean adding something new. It may also mean politely retiring something that has had its turn.
Either way, the goal stays the same: make it easier to find your people, show up prepared, and stay connected in the WordPress world.
