Konstantin is a WordPress aficionado, and Core Developer based in Southern California.
You might remember him from projects like WordPress 4.3 or the new WordPress.org Plugin Directory. At Automattic he’s is part of a team that contributes to Core and WordPress.org full time.

The purpose of this talk is to give a general understanding of why WordPress sites are hacked and how they are hacked. We then use that knowledge to figure out ways of protecting our sites from intrusion.

Using freelancers who work from their own location can give you great flexibility, but don’t come without serious challenges. Ignore them, and you will likely crash and burn your project. Deal with them in the right way and you will have great success. I’ll share lessons learned from working with remote freelancing developers abroad.

As a part of the design team for the biggest WordPress conference in the world — WordCamp Europe, I worked on branding, website theme and various other tasks. As a designer, it was challenging working under “constraints” of open–source, but I pulled through and learned a lot in the process, and I’d like to share that experience with you.

This talk is not about which tools to use or how to pick the project to contribute to. It’s about becoming a better designer by honing your communication skills and empathy towards your colleagues and people who will end up using your designs. By volunteering and contributing to open–source projects you’ll get the opportunity to work on challenging or a particular type of projects you might not otherwise have.

The design is less about making beautiful pictures you can sign your name onto; It’s more about creating a positive impact and improving the experience of the people using it.

Finding the right balance between making money and contributing to any Open Source project is hard. In this talk we’re talking about why it should be done and giving some examples how it can be done.

Anna Boberg är webbansvarig på barnrättsorganisationen Plan International Sverige som 2017 bytte cms till WordPress där Wocommerce möjliggör deras gåvoshop. Hon berättar om hur Plan International arbetar med e-handel och konverteringsoptimering för att förändra världen.

“For the first time since its inception, CSS now has a real two-dimensional layout tool in the CSS Grid specification. We’ve had to resort to using floats, inline blocks and most recently, flexbox. Because using these for layout is essentially a hack, we’re often tempted to resort to grid frameworks like those provided by Foundation and Bootstrap.

Using examples, my talk will look at how we can do what we’ve done with frameworks using CSS Grid instead, and also how we can do things we couldn’t do before without complex tricks or JavaScript. I’ll also share some thoughts on using CSS Grid in production today, accessibility concerns and tips on the best resources for learning more.

This talk will be useful for both beginners, intermediate and long-time front end devs who aren’t yet too familiar with CSS Grid. It should also be interesting to designers who want to know what is possible with todays CSS.”

WordPress sökfunktionen har inte bästa ryktet, även om det har gjords många förbättringar i de senaste versionerna.

Som vanligt finns det plugins för att förbättra sökfunktionen, det mest kända är nog relevanssi.

Ibland räcker dock inte ens det till (webbshoper med väldigt många produkter är ett exempel). Då behövs det en egen sökserver. En av de bästa på marknaden är Elastic Search, som går att integrera med WordPress med hjälp av tillägget ElasticPress.

Föredraget ska gå igenom fördelarna med sökalgoritmen som ElasticSearch använder sig av, visa ett praktiskt exempel, samt hur man anpassar ElasticPress pluginnen till sina egna behov, meta-fält och post-types.
