Why & How to Create Gutenberg Blocks
Since the Release of WordPress 5.0, the package comes with Guttenberg as a default editor and with it blocks that are used in content creation. Even with this, the need to customize user experiences creates room for the creation of custom blocks.
In this talk, we hope to discuss the need for custom blocks and see how to build them, plus take a look at what other plugin options are available that can be used in customizing Gutenberg blocks and the Gutenberg experience as a whole.

Leveraging Keyword Research Methods
The keyword research is the most important part in SEO, if you choose the right keywords to work on them, you have the possibility to have the best results in a short time, and it is very important for the small websites and stores with low DA, to choose keywords with low competition, to have better results with google, because the biggest mistake is that the website’s owner does, is that they choose the wrong keywords in their SEO strategy and they work hard on it with no use.

WordPress Plugin Development Best Practices
WordPress plugins are a major part of what makes the ecosystem the amazing place that it is. Having worked with hundreds of plugins through the years, I’ve discovered some things that I feel stand out and make some easier to work with and extend while making it a bit harder to work with others.
In this talk, I draw from both general software engineering best-practices and from the WordPress world. We get into testing, templating, coding standards, dependency injection, security, extensive use of WordPress’s in-built capabilities like admin table lists, custom post types and the like.

Various malicious injections that result in displaying ads (or opening pop-up or pop-under windows)without site owner’s consent. Such injections may utilise scripts from legitimate ad networks, it can affect any web site (no specific target).
With the evolvement of technology all over the globe such as the growth of the internet, social media, IoT…etc. easing the way we live life, it is important to note that at the same time, the rate of cyber-attacks, data breaches and unauthorized use of personal data is growing exponentially.
In the current environment, it is more important than ever, particularly for those organizations/business entities handling financial data, health information and other personally identifiable information to understand the responsibility they owe to the owners of this data and obviously themselves in in terms of its safety and usability.
This session seeks to open a discussion on the existing vulnerabilities, and loopholes in our cyber security management at both personal and organizational level and how we can close these gaps. We will also explore cyber security and data protection best practices and compliance programmes to help organizations and individuals comply with the evolving new data privacy requirements for successful businesses particularly SME’s.

When I first started building and hosting WordPress sites, I struggled to keep my sites secure. I once built and hosted a high profile website for a public figure (a former minister of Uganda) but I almost gave up the gig when the site was hacked and repopulated with Porn and Chinese text.
Recently I ran into a similar situation after a client from a highly competitive market also faced the same issues. I have learnt quite a lot in regards to securing WordPress sites and I would like to share with the community.
WordPress is the most popular blogging and CMS system, which makes it a favorite target for hackers. Having a WordPress website means that you have to make some extra effort in order to protect you and your visitor’s data. I will discuss much on the best practices for securing a WordPress site, that will help developers/designers do that. It is important to mention that these measures don’t guarantee a 100% protection against hacking attempts, mostly because a 100% secure website doesn’t exist, but they will protect you against the majority of attacks.

1. What diversity and community means in our WordPress context
2. How to make our community welcoming and safe, both in person and online
3. How to step up to be speakers, leaders and better allies in our community.
4. Participants will walk away with an action list to start making changes right away.
Participants should come with an electronic device / computer / notepad, we will get practical.
I would like to read from everyone, especially women and girls before the d-day. If there are questions / comments you have always wanted to get answers to but been afraid to ask or don’t know where to ask, please submit them using this typeform: https://hdytech.typeform.com/to/B94Jbl

Automate and Grow Your Web Business
The high rates of unemployment have pushed many people to be self employed. When you’re self-employed, then you’re likely a freelancer or a business owner.
One of the most viable fields for freelance work is the website development field. Today, nearly everyone wants their own little corner of the Internet with their very own website. On the other hand, not too many have the skills it takes to get it done. When you know how to create even basic websites, you can start up an actual business.
Many international web hosting companies offer reseller web hosting plans which you can use to sub host all your clients. In this session, we shall discuss the various tools like WHMCS and the WHMCS Bridge WordPress plugins which you can use to automate administration of all aspects of your web hosting business including client management, support, invoicing and payments.

Towards the WordPress RESTful API
The web has grown quite a bit over the last decade, and WordPress has fallen behind ever so slightly. More applications are being brought to the web with JavaScript and more dynamic websites are being built with languages like Python and Ruby.
WordPress core and even a few professional WordPress developers feel that WordPress’ heavy reliance on PHP and minimal use of
JavaScript has become far too outdated. This is something the WordPress REST API is meant to solve.
This doesn’t mean WordPress is moving away from PHP, but it does mean developers should consider learning JavaScript if they want to take advantage of what this API has to offer.

Waste Less Time and Automate WordPress Tasks
Even if your website is small, running and maintaining it can take a lot of work. You need to create content, communicate with your audience, keep an eye on security, and much more.
But just because there’s work to be done, that doesn’t mean you need to be the one to do it. By learning how to automate WordPress tasks, you can put things on autopilot and lessen your own workload.
