Building a Better WordPress End-User Editing Experience
Not everyone who uses WordPress is a developer – the truth is that most users just want to be able to update their website quickly and easily. As designers and developers, we need to focus not just on the user experience for visitors to the website, but also for the administrators, editors and contributors who need to maintain content and interact with the back end on a regular basis. Improving the back end user experience doesn’t need to be complicated and doesn’t necessarily require developer skills – but once it’s done it will make that website so much more valuable for the site owner. I will use two examples of sites that have been optimized for end-user editing experience to demonstrate how designers, developers and administrators can help their users make better use of their website.

How WordPress gave me a fulfilling life by having flexibility and financial and location independence
I feel obligated to share how WordPress has contributed in making me live a fulfilling life. I’m not much of a sharer as I don’t want to appear bragging. My aim to inspire people and to show them how to be empowered by a piece of open source software. It is my hope that with the flexibility and freedom working online provides, we would start to think about the essential things in life instead of a never-ending consumerism and FOMO moments.
The talk will be composed of the following:
– Brief intro of how I got into WordPress
– The kind of mindset needed – what and how to learn
– How to get started with this gig
– Where to look for opportunities
– What services you will offer and how much to charge
– What tools you will need to stay organized

Going static to solve security, performance and cost issues
I’ve seen and discussed a lot since my Brisbane WordCamp talk, around WordPress to static site benefits and workflows.
Rather than promote my tool, I want to promote the general concept of publishing a static copy of your WordPress site using various tools.
I’ll better cover some of the “how” and reinforce the “why”.
Super excited to speak at my second-home of Cebu!

Is It Time To Move On From WordPress?
The title may sound too controversial, more, not favouring WordPress and all, but rest assured, my talk will not be biased nor inclined or in any way try to promote to participants. The topic’s purpose to give the participants a general idea about the latest trend of the web especially on creating websites, blog sites and all there is to JAMstack | JavaScript, APIs, and Markup as modern web development architecture based on client-side JavaScript, reusable APIs, and prebuilt Markup. Cutting the chase, although there’s a strong uptrend, in 2019 there are still things that aren’t possible yet to move on from WP. I will highlight the pros and cons and in the end, give the user a feel and let them decide whatever’s best for them. Thanks

Remote Working – Why You Should (Or Shouldn’t) Embrace It
Good software engineers can be found anywhere, and embracing remote working enables you to tap into that global pool. But just because you *can*… does that mean you *should*? In this talk I’ll go through some dos and don’ts, talk about some pitfalls, and hopefully guide you towards doing remote the right way. I’ll include some stories that draw on my experience working in technical recruitment for clients who have been on both sides of the do/don’t scale, as well as Automattic’s decade-plus experience as a fully-distributed company.
Length: 10-15 min
Structure:
– Hello (who I am)
– What remote is (flexible working)
– What remote isn’t (easy or simple)
– Do
— Treat everyone as remote
— Default to async
— Document all the things
— Build a culture
— Get together in person
– Don’t
— Just pick up the phone (unless…) (you then document it for everyone else)
— Assume
— Hold people to 9-5
— Treat it as an experiment
– Conclusion
Composer Dependency Management in WordPress
Composer is a dependency manager for PHP that has been widely adopted by the PHP community at large, but is used less frequently with WordPress. WordPress is largely procedural in nature, and Composer has great tools for object oriented code, like autoloading. That’s nice to have but Composer is primarily a dependency manager which not widely adopted by WordPress developers, I will demonstrate the basics needed to manage a WordPress site, its theme and plugins using Composer so when working with a team, you can easily share your setup and easily replicate with across your organization in the dev level up to the production.
